I have been reading this forum for a while now but I thought that it was time to register.

I decided to be a childminder about 8 weeks ago and have attended my ICP and took the assessment. I found it quite challenging actually as the wording to some of the questions and answers was quite ambiguous. There were about 8 out of the 25 that I just couldn't decide about but answered what I thought was right so I hope that I have passed.

I am from the South Wales area so I am working to CSSIW standards. I have started part 2 of the application but have a mentoring course comming up on the 2nd July.

I have someone waiting for a place so I am hoping for a smooth application process. I expect that I will not be registed until well into the new year though.

Anyway, I just want to say thanks for all the great advice that I have already got from here :)

I in South Wales too, I live in Barry. Where are you?
I did my ICP exam in May, then had the mentoring session, and submitted my application (parts 1 and 2) to the CISSW on 11 May. I was then told it would take about 6 months for all the paperwork to be processed. I didnt realise it would take so long. The NCMA have lost funding to provide ICP courses, first aid and food hygiene, and will only do it for free until the end of September, after that I think you have to arrange it yourself.

The mentoring session will explain how to do all your paperwork to show how you can meet the 21 standards, it might be worth looking on here for some info and get started a bit, because once you have done the session you can submit your application, It takes a while to get your paperwork together.

I handed my application into CSSIW before Christmas and am still waiting for my pre-reg inspection:( . But again this was due to CSSIW misfiling DH CRB in my file instead of posting it to be checked:mad: . and my named inspector had her own problems with CRB so couldn't do any work and is now playing catch up:( . Still no news from them about when I will be inspected. They original told me I would be registered in March:rolleyes: .

They are very very thorough but I minded in England before moving here and I know how rewarding the job is and I will wait patiently to become a childminder again.

Just logged back on now to have a look around and saw all the repiles :) . Thanks for all the advice, it was a good move to stumble upon this site.

I am certainly not holding my breath for a quick reigstration here! I really like looking after children, they are much easier to communicate with than most adults I find :p . I have done a lot of voulanteer work at the local playgroup and love it there so I thought I would take the plunge with the childminding.
