How do get leaves and branches to stick to paper. I tried cellotape as i didn't think glue would work but it just looks messy and they are falling off anyway

I find twigs a PAIN to stick, even with gallons of PVA they fall off! Leaves stick fine with it however :) Have you thought of an alternative way to display your twigs, maybe make a mobile kind of thing with them, all strung together with string or something? I made a mini-wigwam kind of thing with ours, which looked quite effective (even if I say so myself)

Easiest ways I've found are to either use a glue gun or to mix pva with wood shavings/sand/flour/talc (anything powdery really) so that you get a glue that has the consistency of polyfilla that you can press the sticks and twigs into.

Once the children have gone home i use the glue gun to add a bit of extra glue to things but i make sure never to move items so they are always in the same place the children stuck them.

I use Anita's PVA tacky glue - you still have to use quite a bit though

Could you use small strips of paper (same colour as backing sheet) to cover over thick part of twigs and stick the paper strips to the back sheet - sort of like a sling or a paper loop. probably not explaining it properly - can see it in my head -it is a great idea and will work as easier to stick paper to paper than it is to stick twigs to paper!!

Glue gun!
Last year I laminated dried leaves and used a small amount of sellotape to stick then on the window...looked lovely inside and out.

I bring out dried laminated leaves every year. each one has a hole punched into it to hang the leaf and a autumn poem stuck on one side and a number on the other side (1-10) got about 10 done this way the others are just laminated and stuck with blu tack around my notice board.

P.S. If you are a childminder you need a glue gun!:)-

You could also get an oasis ball from the florists, put it in a plant pot - stick the twigs into it, get the kids to decorate small leaves, lamiate and hang them on your 'tree'
