Just to let you know.

When I had my ofsted inspection last year, it was fine, and I actually got an outstanding for 'Keeping children safe'.

Well, on hubby's pre reg visit yesterday, the inspector asked me if I had a copy of the 'Every Child matters:Change for children in Social care'

When I said no, she said 'Oh I'm surprised your inspector didn't pick up on that in your last inspection'

I felt like saying 'Well, after reading my comprehensive policy on child protection, and watching me with the children, it was clear I had an understanding of it, and didn't need some booklet sat in my cupboard to prove it...!!!' But, I smiled, and said 'Oh ok - can I take the details off the back to get a copy?' :p

So just in case - it can be downloaded from http://www.everychildmatters.gov.uk/socialcare/
and click in the document link towards the bottom of the page.

Or I think ordered from the Dfes - ref number: 04320-2006DOM-EN - Every Child matters:Change for children in Social care.

We don't want them to be able to catch us out on anything!!!

Thank you.

Got to say this has cheesed me off a little, how are we supposed to ever know what we should have when they don't send it to us or don't tell us that it even exists?

I've got loads of safeguarding children stuff, it's all basically the same and I've no idea which I actually need so keep it all just in case.

Ridiculous!

Just an update on this - thanks to Dee and her wonderful memory!...

I ordered the document from the reference number above (not the title) and on Saturday I received a copy of 'What to do if you suspect a child is being abused' ... which yes, the inspector is right, we must have ...

I wonder where she got her title though?!?

Hope this clarifies. :D

Same here Miffy! This is when I get all confused. I have seen this and saw that it's about 16 pages and thought well I'm not printing that off! We've all spent a fortune on ink cartidges and when I tried to hide them in my grant thingy recently, my CSDO said I couldn't claim for them. Considering I spent £130 when I registered last year and 'someone' lost that and no-one can find it and now I've spent another £164 including ink cartridges, I'm not happy.

I had a call today from a lady wanting her 2 year old minded for just 5 hours, 5 days a week so she's coming to see me on Wednesday afternoon. She said her minder had just given her notice. Now I'm in a state about going through the 'interview' and if she wants me, doing the contract and policies. I was fine all the years I worked before but now I seem to turn to jelly at the thought of the contract and policies. I had two little boys last year and Mum brought the children and wanted to do the contracts there and then and it was so rushed cos the children were getting stroppy and I can't do with being rushed at my age :panic:

Sue you'll be fine - control the interview and don't let them rush you!

I always give them the option of going away to think about it ... and if they try and sign there and then I have sometimes said I'm not sure, they will need a second visit ...

It gives me time to think as well as them! :D

Thank you Sarah. After only doing one before I'm worried I will fill it in wrong and she'll see I'm not sure what I'm doing. How stupid is that! I don't want this girl to think I'm hopeless and don't know what I'm doing. I can look after the kids fine, the paperwork makes me nervous. I could do with spending some time tomorrow having a look at it but I have a friend coming who I've not seen for about 6 years. I've done nothing for 10 months and tomorrow I have my friend coming, Wednesday I see Steve's psychiatrist and then this girl is coming round and then I have the advanced safeguarding children in the evening!!! :panic:

I hope she doesn't want to rush it, she said her childminder had given her notice today. I like the idea of her going off to think about it and coming back a second time if she does decide to use me. Your idea (I think it was you lol) of letting them sit and read through the folder and all your policies etc while you play with the child is a good one. There was nothing much to look at when I used to do it.
