Hi, Sorry this is a bit of a long one.

On Friday I received a letter from Ofsted saying that as I am classed with no children on roll for over 3 years that they are considering cancelling my registration. However I AM minding and have recently had an inspection in March '12 but is was classed as NCOR as I didn't have any children in the Early years bracket as I am a before and after school childminder.
I do have a child that comes in the holidays that is in the early years bracket but not for every holiday, also I want to be able to have the choice to take EYFS age children as I am at home in the day more now with my little one, I would prefer to stay before and after school minding but want the flexibility of knowing that if needed I could just take on a new full time mindee.

As of September I will have two new children that are starting school but still in the EYFS and I NEED to be registered for them too.
It said on the letter that I would need to have a full inspection but as I do not have a child in the Early years bracket right now how will that go? Will they wait until the summer hols when I would have at least one or possibly both of the new mindees? I really don't want to lose my registration.

Does anyone have any experience of this? Please help!:panic:
Thanks x

Ofsted's new rules state that if you do not have children on roll in early years for 3 years they will de-register you.

You can stay on the Childcare Register for the older children.

You cannot say to them - I intend to have children in September - that is not a reason they will accept.

If you would like to send me your email address by pm I will send you some more information.

Hth :D

Thanks Sarah I have sent you a pm.

I'm just really worried as I do mind for siblings of children I mind before and after school, they come to me in the holidays and are still in the EYFS, one is taken out of nursery so that she gets to spend time with her brother and she loves coming here. I have three siblings of my currently minded children starting in Sept as they are starting school but if I am no longer able to mind in the EYFS bracket I won't be able to mind them as they are still under the EYFS and that will mean I will lose at least 6 children and also the parents are going to be REALLY stuck as there is a big shortage of childminders and childcare in our area.

This is a nightmare.

go onto Ofsted and look at the criteria for registering as an after school club - I am fairly sure that the age range is between 3 -7 yrs and the ratio is higher as well.

Can you not borrow the holiday only child for your inspection ? It isn't a lie as she is on your books , just not term time.

Thanks for your replies.

I have just got off the phone to my CDO who said that as I HAVE childminded children in the EYFS bracket and have evidence to prove this that it should be ok (??!!) Ofsted were well over a year late in inspecting me and if they had come last year I did have a child still in reception, she is year 1 now but I have her Learning Journey book still as I held on to it to show as evidence which I did in March and the inspector was happy with it.
My CDO said that as I have a child that comes in the holidays and that I have 3 starting in September and that I have only just had an inspection that confirms that I am still meeting the Early Years requirements that this should go in my favour as it is madness for me to have to resign and then have to start the process again in time for the summer holidays. She also said that if they wanted to come in the September when the 3 new ones started then they could.

I am tempted to ask to borrow my holiday child, she would have to come out of nursery for it but mum would be ok with that but my CDO said to call Ofsted first and give them the points that I HAVE childminded Early years in the last 3 years and that I have one that comes in the holidays and also have the 3 new little ones starting in reception in September, she said I could get written confirmation from the parents as proof of them starting.
She thinks this is probably a standard letter that has come up on the system without them looking in to it properly, I don't know :panic:

I'm terrified to make the call as I don't know what is going to happen.

Thanks

Just made the call!

I'm still a bit worried but the chap at Ofsted said that if I send them the two contracts 1. my holiday child and 2. my mindee who started in Sept 2010 and still comes to me, that hopefully that will be enough evidence to stop the cancellation.

I feel sick, a bit more hopeful, but still worried.

He did say that it was a computer generated letter as they are going out in batches. Why couldn't they just have come and inspected last year when they were due and when my little mindee was still in the EYFS!!!

My concern is that as I haven't had a graded inspection yet that this will go against me, when my first 3 year inspection was due we had just moved house and I had to wait until my new certificate with the new address came through until I could start and it didn't come in time, when my inspector came she said I should have just minded a child anyway so I could have been graded but I thought I would have got in to much more trouble if I hadn't followed Ofsted rules & regs and then like I said before they came over a year late for my most recent inspection and as I didn't have a child under 5 then and I had just come back off of maternity leave so I didn't think to borrow my hoilday child until it was too late so it was a NCOR again. But like I said, I HAVE minded under 5's in the last 3 years so hopefully these 2 contracts will be enough to satisfy them.

Thanks for all of your help and please keep your fingers crossed!
