HI, i have a couple of questions,
firstly, me and my sister are on our pre registration course at college to become childminders, i already have a level 3 cache diploma in child care and education, and weve confused our self's silly trying to work out the best way of registering
( we will both be working from my home full time and it is me sorting most of our paper work ect as she works full time in the hospital and i only work 12 hours per week and have 2 little boys of 19months and 3).... from what we can work out we both need to be registered childminders, but how do we go about ofsted???
do i register myself and my home first?
can we register at the same time?
do we have one grading for the setting or do we have separate ones?
do i hire her as my assistant once im registered? and how ?

as u can tell we really are confused we've prob made it worse than it really is, we were just wondering if any one has done something similar and could help,
any response would be very helpful many thanks

I'm not sure but you may have to consider planning permission if your sister doesn't live with you - its not necessary for a childminder working from home but once you start working with others it can be - depend on your LA's rules

yeh iv had a quick look into it, it seems as long as you dont have more than the normal 6 children that one minder would have registered then u dont require it, were only planning on having 4 plus my two boys so should get away with it i think if we want to take any more children on then id look into it in more depth ect

What do you gain by having your sister as a Childminder opposed to an Assistant (both having their fist aid and crb)?

As a Childminder she can look after the children if you are not there or not able (may be you are sick). Downside is double the expense of insurance and ofsted fees and you would both have an inspection, meaning that your sister would be expected to know everything that you do. This is classed as "co-minding"

As an Assistant she can still look after the children but only for short periods of time. You would be responsible for her, expenses, income, paperwork etc...

For 12 hours a week it seems to me that she would be better off as your assistant now but continue with the course and if she needs it in the future become a Childminder in her own right.

we would both be working together full time, the 12 hours is what i currently work in a shop, so we would be co-minding, would ofsted inspect us together on the same day or separately?
