Hi
I am in the process of writing my policies and procedures as i want to be ready as quickly as possible. i was wondering if i need to have regard to the SEN code of practice ie the graduated approach or is that just for accredited childminders? i have a copy due to previously working in a SEN dept of a school and am familiar with how it works but do i put it in to practice as a childminder or not. if i am not required to do so, do i have the option if i want to?

You are not required by law to have a copy of the SEN code of practice unless you are accredited.

However it is good practice for all childminders to read up and understand the principles of the code as they are relevant to us all.

I have the SEN code of practise, I am not accredited but I care for a child with SEN and feel it necessary to have it in my setting. x
