My youngest Charlotte is 18 at the end of this month. She is really quite shy and suffers from anxiety. She gets herself worked up just having to make a telephone call!
She wants to go to Uni, but doesn't know what she wants to study so applying here and writing her personal statement seems an impossible task at the end of last year.
Off her own back, she has explored going to Uni abroad. She attended an Open Day in London with her Dad (I was I'll, so couldn't go) and found out lots of details.
She applied to some colleges in the USA, sorted out what paperwork her each teacher's needed to do and helped them sort everything out online.
She had to answer some very soul-searching questions in the application forms and found some really hard.
We heard last week that she has been accepted to go to 2 colleges so far - one she really wants to attend. Not only that, she has been awarded a scholarship too.
I am so proud of her. She is off to Michigan in September, won't come home until next May as we can't afford flights home every holiday.
The downside is I won't be giving up childminding for the next 4 years (I was going to reduce the number of children I looked after next year) as she can't get a loan to use out in the US.
To want to do this when she is so shy and anxious is amazing.
To top the week off, she also passed her driving test on Wednesday so big celebrations this weekend.
