HELP URGENTLY NEEDED PLEASE!!!!

The shift worker came to me this morning. I had sort of decided to charge for a full time place as you all suggested BUT she has given me the exact hours and I can't bring myself to charge for full time. She really wants baby to come to me and has left it with me to work out fees.

breakdown as follows (hours not me having a breakdown!!!)

week 1 - 20.5 hrs
week 2 - 8 hrs
week 3 - 18.25 hrs
week 4 - their hol
week 5 - my hol
week 6 - 16 hrs
wk 7 - 28.5 hrs
wk 8 - 20.5hrs
wk 9 -12 hrs
wk 10- 28.5
wk 11 - 20.5
wk 12- 8
wk 13- 18.25
wk 14 - 24.5
wk 15 - 8
wk 16- 16 hr

these hours would still be taking up full time place.

earliest start 7.15. latest finish 6.00pm

What would you charge?

How about the hours used charged at full fee and the other unused full time hours at half fee?

I would come to some arrangement of a weekly fee, no matter what hours are used.

I would probably pitch in at around £100 a week and make sure that was paid directly into my account.

You have to remember that the child IS taking a full time space. Even on the weeks you have the child 8 hours you won't be able to fill any of the other spaces unless exsisting mindees want an extra day here and there.

£100 a week is still a lot lot cheaper than they'd get a nursery space for.

Does the parent get help with childcare costs?
Does the parent work full time? if they do then don't forget they will be getting a full time income...........

Just my thoughts, but it's a difficult one to deal with.

I was going to say charge for the maximum amount of hours booked but that wouldn't work out very much so i think i would go with one of the above they both sound good. Maybe the set price would be better as is you were charging full foe hours used and half for unused hours it would meen getting paid greatly varying amounts xx

You have to charge her something more than the hours used otherwise you are giving up a full time place for just 8 hours some weeks :panic:

The £100 a week sounds like a good idea as a full time place would roughly be £175 (depending on your hourly fee) so £100 is more than fair when you look at it that way!

that's what i thought - works out about same as £100 /week anyway.

she knows i don't work fridays though so a full time space with me would be £120 (mon-thu) so she's only saving £20. would only need me 5 fridays and said if i can't do them she can get grandparents to help.

i would charge from 7.15am till 6pm every day as she is taking a full time place up, or you will lose out on money

Glad you have come to an agreement you are both happy with. I think it sounds fair. Not quite full time rates but you will still be earning the same amount every week.

Hope she gets back to you

So pleased for you.

That sounds really fair Caroline and if it's in line with what she was thinking then I'm sure they will sign.

Good luck - hope you "clinch" the deal tomorrow

Wow, maybe not full-time rates but close enough (to your fees, anyway, not working Fridays) for sometimes an 8 hour week?! I'd be loving that arrangement, actually!:clapping:

Well done!

Well done Caroline - so glad you got it!

I can see that I'm going to be asking lots of similar questions (hopefully!) when I start minding! It took me a while to get my head round that but I got there in the end!

Hope you have a great time with your mindee.
