I currently do mainly snap shot observations with a long observation approximately once a month. I link these to EYFS and give next steps. I word these as "** was playing in the water. She carefully used the funnel and jug to direct the water where she wanted......."

I am just doing some uni work and part of this block is about Learning Stories and how it helps to gain more indepth knowledge and understanding of the child. You work alongside the key child for around 30 minutes tracking what they do and then add photos. The wording of these is "I saw you playing in the water, you were carefully using the funnel and jug to direct the water where you wanted it go ...."

Does anyone do their observations in this way?? I cannot decide whether I like it and if Ofsted will prefer or not prefer it???

Hope this makes sense!

I also studied this in uni and I think they are a lovely way to record an observation especially when you are able to include the voice of the child and the parent.

However they do take up lots of time so I only tend to do them for WOW moments.
