Hello,

I am currently in the process of re-registering after 3 years break from childminding. When I registered in 2006 I paid about £25 for my health declaration, I have now just been told by my doctors surgery it will be £88.80!!

Is this roughly what other people have been paying?

I have also found out that my area is not eligible for start-up grants so I will have no help with these expenses :(

I really want to childmind again but I'm not sure I can afford to set-up once you add up all the costs just to get registered, never mind any extra equipment I may need. :panic:

you can put it as expenses..

Quite a few people have paid over £100 for there declaration.

I could put it as expenses, yes, but I probably wouldn't earn enough to get taxed anyway (judging from when I worked previously), lol. Claiming it against expenses doesn't really help when starting up anyway, that is something you do once you are actually up and running and have obviously already afforded all the expenses that come with starting up.

I was charged £80 and that was 4 years ago! Wonder what he is charging now then:eek:

_ I never paid for it in the end, I was told it was £50, so sent a cheque for £50 only to get a phone call to tell me to go and collect the form as it wasn't £50 it was £80, so they gave me my form back and the cheque. Got home to see the GP had filled form in and signed it........... of it went in the post and my greedy dr got bogger all! lol

I wasn't charged for mine either :D

Once your registration has gone through you could have a big marketing campaign to promote your business and hopefully will attract some parents/mindees to make it all worth while

Hi, I only had to pay £5:clapping: I was told that my doctor decides by how much he needs to fill in so obviously he did not think it was that bad!! Like others have said once you are up and running again it will be worth it.

Try negotiating with your GP. Mine wanted £87.50 but I pointed out that other GP's in the area were only charging £25 and that I wasnt actually earning any money so he agreed to reduce to £25! :)

Ive spent getting on for £3000 for start up costs as I dont have young children of my own anymore so toys/equipment, memberships, Ofsted fee, Doctors fee, advertising, stationery etc etc etc and I still only have 1 part time child so Im really hoping work will pick up!

It is your individual doctors who charge not the surgery. I was lucky as mine didnt but a friend of mine in the same surgery paid £160!!!

A poor lady on my Chip course was charged something int he region of £260. Our tutor said that in all her years of childminding and training she had never heard of anyone being charged anywhere near this amount.

I applied for mine and was not advised of a charge. When they had done it they sent an invoice for £23.00 and to date I have not paid it. It seems incredibly wrong that some people have to pay it, and some don't. I wouldn't mind paying for it if there was a fixed amount that we were all made aware of at the outset and it was governed by someone!

I agree there should be some guidelines for doctors follow, I paid £50 for mine which is a lot of money to find when I was on basic maternity pay... My friend who goes to the doctors round the corner paid £15....it just isn't fair! Do you think it could be something NCMA look into?

I was charged about £85. I was told that was in keeping with NHS's guidlines. It does seem a bit over the top though!

Ive just had mine done and it was £20, i was expecting about £50, sounds like most of them are just charging a lot because they know we have to have it filled out :(
