Hi, I am hoping that someone can help me. My son is 2 and 1/2 and has been in pants since christmas. The problem is that he won't ask to go to the toilet and will just hold it till he wets. He can hold it for 4hours + (quite impressive but not helpful with getting him to ask to go) He also won't poo on the potty or toilet, just in his pants. I am a loss as what to do to help him. Any advice is really appricated.

Sounds like he is not ready to me. Do you sit him on potty at regular intervals?

Yeah he goes on about every 2 hours. He has asked for big boy pants and won't wear his nappies in the day, I have asked and said that he can still use the potty like we are doing now but he insists on pants

What about the toilet? Would he be more inclined to sit on that? My DD never used a potty she wanted to sit on the toilet from day 1.
I think the poo thing is very normal. Lots of children don't like the feeling of "letting go" and pooing into anything but once he does it once and gets lots of praise he will be less scared the next time.

my little one wont go near the toilet, only a potty, even though she aks, then screams blue murder when i try to sit her on it, even with anice new seat

she will sit on her potty, but when it comes to a poo, she will run off hide and then poo, we are giving it another go thsi next week, but if it is a no go will leave her a bit longer.

It sounds liek he has a good bladder control, but i think you need to get him on the potty more often just so he gets used to it, as with mine they like the idea of pants but dont want to do the rest of it, I am doing pants with pull ups over this next week, potty upstairs and down stairs and settign the timer for every 20 mins to start off with, to remind myself to pop her on or ask her if she needs the potty, am also staying home this next week, off out later to stock up on food etc, so we can master this before we start tryign this out doors

i've got a week off for half term so think i will tackle with him more then when i can give him 1 to 1 attention. i just can't convince him to do poo straight down the toilet. He just told me they go down the toilet but in his pants first.
