Hi everyone, has been a while!!:)
Can I claim tax on expenses of the car petrol etc? And how can I calculate the tax on the petrol/diesel miles done?
Sorry but I'm terrible at this and my first time!!:panic:
Thank you:-)

I don't drive but as far as I know you claim 45p a mile and this covers everything connected to a car. The other way is more complicated and I am not sure if what you are talking about is acceptable that way.

Hope that makes sense

You need to write down for every journey done for a business purpose:

Date
Where the journey was from/to
What the journey was for
Miles done

Add up all the miles and you can claim 40p per mile in 2010/11 or 45p in 2011/12 for the first 10,000 (!) business miles.

or you can claim capital depreciation and claim the business percentage of the miles you do.

To do this you need to have a large business percentage. How many miles did you do last year and what percentage was business?

Ok thank you girls:thumbsup:
I had two sisters for 5 mths one of the girls was picked up by me 4 days a week, and the distance was 5-10 mtns by car. Also done 2-3 a week short drive to local playgroups. But now i have a different child only 3 days a wk and use the car less. So I just wanted to know if was possible to claim something for the 5 mths of picking up the girl from school. I will try to work out the miles etc.
Thank you so much for your help everyone:-)
