I have never been asked to provide one and have done overnight care for 8 years.
Double check with your local fire safety team - I know some advice differs across the country. I live in Derbyshire.

I was just asked if I had one and if it was easily accessible and the answer is yes I have one and yes it is accessible and no questions were asked about where I kept it.
My opinion is if it is fire I can tackle - then I have time to go to the fire blanket. If there is no time to do this, then its out out out.
I do not have an extinguisher and I am registered for overnight care.

Thank you ladies, i have one but it is in the kitchen, I have water and flannels in the bedroom for making wet masks, my fire alarms have lights to guide you, and I have a torch and emergency contacts in my room, plus charged phone, hoping this will be enough with the other measures i have taken in the room.
