I know it stands for Learning Journal but what exactly is it?

I have a scrapbook with pictures and a write up of what they did and certain specifics that I pick up on. Then at the bottom where I think it links to the EYFS. I then have post it notes stuck on with ideas of what I can do next. ex mindee did some painting and new all this primary colours so I planned to do some more painting with the idea of mixing colours and making new ones etc... Is that what you mean by a LJ? or am I missing the point entirely?

Sounds like a LJ to me!

An LJ can be a scrapbook, a note book, a loose leaf folder, a computer document. It can have whatever you think is required in it.

Lj's are not actually a requirement of the EYFS - but they are a lovely way of recording the child's learning and development - and time in your setting.
