Can any one give me a the right answer to give when asked by the inspector what you would do if you suspected abuse please? Am I right in thinking you would ring the telephone number on that green card? x

You would write down exactly what your concerns are / what the child says and if you think it is safe to speak to the parents then do so, but if you don't or it's something that is worrying you / about the parents etc, then you should contact your local safeguarding children board and follow their advice...

Have a look at the sample Safeguarding Policy on the NCMA website for further advice :D

As Sarah says plus you have to have phone numbers of the safeguarding team available, including the duty officer for out of hours, I have them in my policy.

Your green card should be ok provided it is the latest one with the correct phone number, they were updated last year with ammendments for safguarding children as opposed the child protection.

Try typing 'safguarding children' and your area into google and you might get their website with all relevant numbers so you can check.

My inspector asked what sort of other oranisations I was aware if who give advice/guidance with regards to abuse. I answered about the NSPCC and she seemed happy with this

Yes - it gives you the numbers to call if you suspect abuse and think it has signs and symptoms on too

I've just fetched mine to have a look at

It is a piece of green card folded in 3 entitled "Indicators of possible Child Abuse" on the front. Inside the card it goes into how to identify child abuse and on the back who to make a referral to.

All phone numbers given are relevant to my area - I've always had one of these and assumed it was the same for everyone but with numbers relevant to their area iyswim

be sure when explaining to inspector what u would do in the event you suspected abuse that you tell her/ him that u will follow up any suspicion in writing i know a fellow minder was pulled on this as she didnt mention she would report it in writing just that she would inform the relative parties.....

My inspector this week did not ask me anything on child abuse. She saw my certificate for child protection online course I did and was happy with that.

I do not have a green card.
