Nursery age & obs

When children start nursery do you still carry out 1 weekly obs plus 1 photo ob per month. I think when childern start reception do you only carry out 1 ob per month either photo or nonphoto ob.

I don't do any once they start reception as they are being assessed at school. The amount I do if they are at nursery / pre-school depends on how many hours they are with me in comparison to the other setting. If I've had them from babies I just carry on with their learning journeys as before but if its a new child I just pass on my notes and photos to the other setting to be put in their folder there.

The Eyfs continues through reception year until the August 31st after the child is age 5.

So if you have children in nursery, reception etc you still must follow the requirements of the Eyfs while they are with you.

This includes keeping their learning journey folder topped up with observations, assessments and individual planning.

Obviously you will write less because they are not with you as much.
