I've just made a 'touch' book :) I cut an old scrapbook up (same size/shape as a cheque book) and on each page I stuck something different - for instance, feathers on one page, shredded paper, sandpaper, cotton wool etc. I'm really pleased with it :) I got the idea from a conference I went to ages ago. I want to do other senses, but I don't really think a sense of taste one would work! lol :)

Does anyone else do these, or something similar?

I love that idea, I hope you don't mind me pinching it to. My mindee is 80% deaf and she would get a great deal from this.
Thankyou

She definitely would - the conference I got the idea from was geared towards deaf/blind and children with other disabilities :) So, pinch away

I have done this over the years, used things like sandpaper for rough, fur material for soft, foil for shiny etc.

That's a brilliant idea! I might do something similar through the holidays when the older children are around to contribute more :D

Brilliant idea - am also stealing that! I have a deaf girl who would love that too. Were there any other good ideas for hearing impairment mentioned on the course - I would to hear them if there were (or from anyone else who has them)

My son had to make a book based on a poem for school this Easter, he made a touch one:thumbsup: he got a prize for it too! I was so proud of him, he looked at all the books in the childminding boxes and said, I think a touchy feely one would be hard to make but look good! (he is 9)

He has now added it to my childminding boxes!

For a sense of taste (someone shared this with me the other day) make choc krispie cakes using different choc eg choc orange, mint areo, etc etc and see if the children can name the flavours

I tried these today with my 2.5 yr old daughter with help from my 11month old mindee - the theory being my daughter could cut and stick and the 11 month old could help choose things and have a good feel of all the different materials.

Well my daughter decided she didn't want to do a touchy feely one she wanted to do a book all about red things - so red things we did!!!

It is a fab idea and all day she kept pointing out more red things to stick in so although we didn't stick to plan (well who does!!) it gave us a very productive rainy day activity thank you!!
