My DH cooked dinner last night and put a hot saucepan down on my breakfast bar.
It has left a big burn ring and the plastic has bubbled

Luckly it is on the end of the breakfast bar so we can just trim off the end part and put a new strip on, it will make the breakfast bar a bit shorter but hey ho.

But its the smell of burnt plastic ARRRRHHHHH!!!

I have washed the area, sprayed the air, got windows/doors open, got my oil burner going but nothing seems to get rid of the smell of burnt plastic. It's making me feel a bit sick :(

How can I get rid of the smell, please someone heeeeeeelp :D

Burn some nice smelling ( vanilla or spice) joss sticks. That smell will mask anything

I'm burning Satsuma oil in my oil burner but you can still smell it :(

You would need a few oil burners going at the same time to mask it :D

Did you put the extractor fan on when you were trying to get rid of the smell to start with? The paper might need changing...

Good luck! :D

I was out last night when he did it, but as soon as I got in I put the extracter fan on and opened all the doors and windows.

This morning the smell is just as bad, I've got the back door open a bit and the windows open but the mindee's are getting a bit chilly.

I will put the fan on again for a while to see if it helps, thanks sarah.

When the parents dropped off this morning I could see they could all smell it but were to embarassed to say anything

Hubby defo in the dog house!

have you tried rubbing or spraying something directly onto it, some oils or some anti-bac spray. Poor you!

i think toastin him over an open fire would

a, smell better

b, make you feel better

c, make him remember not to do it again

and like the breakfast bar, tell him if anything gets singed then you can always trim off the redundant part

just my thoughts on this monday afternoon

I have baked muffins this morning and I've still got my oil burner going.
I've rubbed some Bicarb of soda into it and sprayed it with lemon kitchen cleaner.
The smell is not so bad but you can still smell it in the air a bit, either that or i've just got the smell stuck in my nostrils

DH met me by the front door last night when I came in and he looked very sheepish, I knew something was up. He has been very very helpful since then

Is it just in the air or have you got the burnt plastic still in the house? Pour bicarbonate soda over the area orchalk to absorb the smell, never tried this on plastic though works great on carpets!

Yes, the burn ring is still on the plastic, can't cut it off til brother in law comes with his jigsaw

I will post a picture when I get time, to show you all how bad the burn is
