I registered in the May and had 7 mindees starting in September. It was bad timing really because everyone was looking for care from the new school year.

I was very lucky as within a few weeks of registering a childminder I knew from toddler group had an enquiry for two siblings and she couldnt do it, but she knew a new minder who could

I was registered at the end of May. I have mindees lined up from the beginning of May (passed on from another childminder who couldn't accommodate them) and they started with me the first week of June.

I was registered at the end of January, was already in contact with the mum of my now two mindees and they came and visited in Feb, started beginning of March. I contacted her through childcare.co.uk as the mum posted and I responded to her ad.

I had two full time mindees lined up before my registration came through.
I then had a further 3 after schoolers on my books within a week of my registration coming through.

I had one waiting to start as soon as I got my registration, and the next one I picked up the day I actually started working. Then it took a few months to build up the rest. Best thing I did was register on www.childcare.co.uk

The first time I registered in England I was really lucky I had a parent wanting full-time for a 3 yo & fulltime before & after school for a 6 year old:clapping: (My only fulltimers ever) to start 4 days after cert was granted.

When I registered with CSSIW I had someone within 2 weeks but she only wanted 12 hours a week - the credit crunch hit the area hard and the next enquiry I had was 10 months later just as the 1st mum terminated contract as she had changed job:(

I had my first enquiry about a week after registering and they started two weeks later! I was very lucky to be honest, was expecting it to be September! Had already lost 2 potential mindees due to registration taking so long! X

It's a long time ago now but I registered so I could take care of a friend's child so had work ready and waiting when my registration came through.

Hope you get some enquiries soon

Do you know any other childminders in your area who might pass on your details to parents if they are full?

I know a few from toddler group but it doesnt run in the holidays or bank holidays (and its on a monday!) so havent had a chance to tell them im now registered!

There is a mayday celebration in the village today, is it worth printing off some leaflets (I havent got any Bcards yet) and taking them with me incase I get talking to any parents?

Sounds like a good idea to me! You just need to get your name known and you'd be surprised where work can spring from!

Good luck

I found it was actually worth paying for 3 months membership on childcare.co.uk. Thats all i needed! It was only about £13 I think and so worth it! I then contacted people who had looked at my profile to tell them I had spaces available and gave them my number. That got em in! You have to poach a little lol The website does'nt give out contact info unless you pay and as a parent I wouldn't want to pay to find childcare when you'll be paying for it in the long run.
You won't have spaces for long once word gets out trust me. The world is screaming out for us :clapping:

I was registered on 14 February and had two part timers by 29th Feb and a full timer by 31st March. The girls at the childminding group at my local children's centre really helped me out with getting business
