Hi all

Just after some advice really! I am in the middle of my second year fd. Now the uni that I am doing it with are not offering the third year online unfortunatly. Not for another year anyway which would mean I take a year off.

Now being the impatient person I am I am looking at other options - I feel if I take the year off I would get out of the swing of studying iykwim :o

So at the risk of sounding thick!! what is the official name for the third year of a degree?
Is it honours? just so I can google some uni's!!

I would really fancy specialising in playwork - is that possible?

i don't know where you would do it online hon but OU and ICS probably a good start.

It's usually called the top up year or HE3. I looked into it with ICS before I did mine but I could manage attendance in the evenings and on my day off each week so went to uni in the end.

Some of the centres maybe like Thomas Coram or Penn Green might offer it??

Uni's are few and far between in my part of the world unfortunately!! I will have a look at those

I've been having a search but finding it really difficult to get much info of websites. I think it looks like you have to ring uni's to find out if they do what you want. Some do just a BA others do a combined BA (Hons). I am still a little undecided what to do. I know I live close to Glyndwr but for me it really depends how 'full time' full time is iyswim. If it is not 9 til 5 every day I could probably rearrange the mindees I have now to be able to fit it in. Really don't want to do it part time which will take another 2 years.

I could do with finding somewhere who does it as a residential course that you have to spend a few days each month in lectures. I am waiting for Chester Uni to get back to me as that is close enough for me to attend.

What a shame they haven't got their act together to have the online top up ready:rolleyes:

I've come up with nothing so far either :(

To be honest I would really like to continue at Glyndwr as I feel settled there - I know a lot of the tutors, and have you of course!

I don't wanna be the new girl again :crying:

I know! We have a good little support group going on don't we? But if you think that year 3 will be even more free choice then we would probably all end up doing different types of assignment. We could still swap ideas:thumbsup:

I am determined not to wait for a year so I will continue to look:D

i was full time hon but they offered a few timetables, one full day, all day, two evenings and a half day (not every week) or short day and one evening.

That's what I am hoping for then I should be able to fit in attending Uni without it having too much impact on my current children. I have found one at Chester that I like the look of which is 3 terms full time or 4 terms part time. So not much difference between the two.

Holly - I haven't come across any that would be completely online. I'm not sure OU is for me but you have been fab over the last two years doing it all online so I am sure you could manage. I will still be here for moral support:thumbsup:

Thanks hun! I might have a look at OU, not sure I would get the same tutor support there though, have heard some horror stories! I think because I get the study days at Glyndwr it helps.
Chester sounds good! When do you have to apply by? Is there a cut off date?

Oops! You weren't supposed to see me on here today:blush:

Maybe as it is year 3 you get away with having less support? I don't know I guess it's balancing how much you want to do it right now with deciding if you could cope with a different method of study.

Still waiting for Chester to come back to me but I also haven't ruled out Glyndwr either. Any further a field just wouldn't be managable. I also really want to be able to do it in the day as my new course starts tonight and will run for 2 years so I don't really want another night out each week:D
