Hi, my wife and myself are parents of 17 year old twins who are really interested in becoming registered childminders

We are both new to this and are looking for as much help/information as possible to help us become registered childminders.

We both love children and would love to be able to carve out a career working with them.

We are looking forward to hearing from people in here who could help us in any way,
Many thanks, Chris, and Joanne

there's a few husband and wife teams on here - am sure one of them will be along to advise you shortly.

Not sure where you are based but usually your Local authority will run briefing sessions which you must attend. After that you go through the ofsted application process (which includes your criminal record checks) and usually complete your initial training course during that period. Some LA's now require you to complete your training prior to starting the application process. You would also have to do your first aid before starting out.

Good luck to you! and welcome to the forumx

Hi

Your best bet would be to ask your LA as mentioned above. Theres loads of advice on the forum too so you have come to the right place!

Normally your local SureStart centre would have info on this too, if not then it is your LA. Normally you attend a briefing session(2 hours), then can book yourself onto a childminding pre-registration course(approx 12 weeks). During these 12 weeks, book yourself onto a 12 hour Paediatric first aid course and apply to Ofsted.

Hope that answers you question.

Good Luck

Agree LA best place to start - Family Information Service as a first call.

Also information on National Childminding Association website about becoming a Registered Childminder - so worth having a look www.*************
