I've been looking at the percentage i can claim but i fall in between two %ages so not sure which one would be most suitable?

i worked 18hours a week so

do i claim for 17% @ 20hours a week or
12 % @ 15hours a week

any help would be great

thanks

Okay, are you ready? Here's my next daft question!

I'm adding up my hours worked per week at the moment but I am adding up precisely ie. using the sign in and sign out times, should I be using these or the contract hours (which would be easier!!!)?

I.e. contract hours 12.00 to 3.00 (3 hours or 180 mins)
sign in/sign out 11.59 to 2.58 (2 hours 59 mins or 179 mins)

Thank you!

I'd definately use contract times. Might be wrong though. :D

My opinion... life's too short to worry about the odd minute and it'll be much easier to add up if you do it by the contracted times!

Having said that, I am not for one moment suggesting your accounts should not be as accurate as possible and if you were consistently 10 / 15 or more minutes out, I would look at it again. :D

I'd agree with marie but don't know if that's right

Oh, why didn't I do this as I was going along! Ha ha!

Glad I've only been working part-time or I'd go nuts!

Thank you - I'm going to do it accurately - well, as accurately as my maths allows!

Right, all my precise hours are now added up -didn't take that long really thank goodness and I know it's all exact!

Now I'm confused! Two questions!

First one - for quite a few weeks I did less than 10 hours work so that means I have no per centage to claim I take it?

Second one - I paid £35 p/month for gas so say for w/c 3rd September I worked 15 hours (12%) I have calculated it like this but I think it must be wrong!

£35 divided by 30 days in Sept x 7 days in a week x 12% ????

Is that how you would do it or have I gone accounting barmy?

I am so sorry to be so dim! No-one else has had to ask these stupid questions!!!!!

Sorry, sorry, sorry!

Sorry, sorry, sorry!

you are not dim hun.

you would just work out 12% of £35 and enter that figure once a month.

thats what i do anyway.

but i might not be the best person to advise you, im sending mine off to accountant tomorrow!!

The hours you work tell you the % you can claim... once you've got the % figure you can forget about the hours...

So you know your % is 12%... and your total = £35...

Like Lou says, 12% of £35 = £4.20

Hope that helps! :D

Probably because I am pretty hopeless at maths!

It has to be explained to me really well and be really obvious to me or I can't do it!

I think I'm getting more and more confused!

In September I only worked two weeks, one works out at 20% and the other at 21% and I paid £35 for the month for gas.

So, I have done this:

£35 divide by 30 days of Sept x 7 days for a week x 20% and
£35 divide by 30 days of Sept x 7 days for a week x 21%

then added the total together which comes to £1.63 for first week and £1.72 for the second week = £2.83

Is that right for September?

That's wrong isn't it?

Your confusing me now and im sat here questioning myself!

Do you use the ncma books?I do so i work it out weekly.

Firstly i got my monthly/ yearly utility bills and worked out how much it costs for each bill per week then i look how many contracted hours i have worked that week and work out the relevant % of the weekly utility amount.

I wrote down the cost of each utility bill in a book with the figures worked out for yearly, monthly, weekly and wrote a reminder of the % for different hours worked. So now every fri i can quickly just look at my notes and work out the figures. It is usually thje same as work same hours most of the time.

Does this help? Or am I doing it all terribly wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!! x

Thank you!

I'm still confused so I'm just going to stick with my weird method and to hell with it! It's only a matter of a few pounds so I can't be too wrong!
