It's on my Xmas list. I love the look, smell and feel of a paper but I also love the idea of never being without a good book, either. I'm looking forward to trying a new literary experience. I've finally gotten used to books on tape (well, books on iPhone anyway) so I'm ready to broaden my horizons again.

My husband got one a couple of weeks ago and they have been inseparable! The screen doesn't light up so apparently it's more like reading a proper book and you just press a button to 'turn' the page. You can download PDF files onto it too.
My husband loves his books (our house is full of them) but he got a kindle to save a bit of space in our house.
I think he's found it good value so far but he does have an hours commute to work and back by train so has plenty of time to read.
Hope that helps Hx

I was thinking of the space saving - I have too many books :o

Having said that, I am reading a childens book at the moment  - bought the first for my DS (13) but got hooked - there are 12 in the set (a year long story, so I am up to November now and will have to wait for Decembers book!) Might look into the Kindle  :)

Thats what I was thinking I have stacks and stacks of (leisure) books and then we have tons and tons of study books.......

what else can you do on a Kindle. Its saying about 3g and WiFi - presume you;d be able to access the internet?

i've got one on my xmas list. you can access the internet and download files like eyfs and other long documents that you might want to read. i just need to save space and as i get through a book in just a few days it will save a lot of trips to the bookshop and library. i would imagine soon you'll be able to 'borrow' library books on it to?

If anyone is thinking of buying a Kindle from Amazon please use

THIS LINK (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.co.uk%2Fs%3Fie%3D UTF8%26rh%3Di%253Aaps%252Ck%253Aamazon%2520kindle% 26page%3D1&tag=childminding-21&linkCode=ur2&camp=1634&creative=19450">Name Your Link</a><img src="https://www.assoc-amazon.co.uk/e/ir?t=childminding-21&l=ur2&o=2" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;)

It won't cost a penny more but will earn valuable revenue to help fund the running costs of the forum.

Thanks.

I was looking at these. The only thing that concerned me was the type of books downloadable onto it.

Can you only download from amazon or can you get them anywhere else?

I love the idea of a kindle.:)

I went into the bookshop today and they showed me one of these...they put it in my hand!! Very crafty move!! I want one now :panic:

You can even download academic books and make notes on them - which is a positive for me doing the fd!

The amazon price is good, they were £50 more in waterstones.

mines under the tree :) ......I already have an e reader and I love it...so handy for taking on holidays...no more suitcase full of books for a 3 week stay......looking forward to the kindle though...sis has one so we can share books...only pay to download them once then both can read them

I bought one 2 weeks ago as an early christmas present (we are going away and I wanted to be up and running on it) It is BRILLIANT. I have already read 3 books and have bought over 20.

My husband is very happy not to have any more books in the house. I have usually bought 2 for £7 now £8 in Tesco. I have found most of the books I have bought to be cheaper than this and have also loaded free books. We have wireless internet in the house so I can even buy books when I am in bed. I find it very easy to read but had to adjust to the different feel of holding it.

The only problem I know have is that I misplace it so often as it is very small and gets lost under stuff. My husband hates wasting money on gadgets but he is really impressed with my Kindle.

must say I think I prefer the sony e reader...but had to swap to the kindle as me dad and sis share books and they both got these as pressies so I had to follow suit...maybe its just coz i'm used to the sony but in a lot of reviews it comes out on top

i have bought hubby a kindle for christmas and am so excited i can't wait for it to arrive.

he travels all over the country by train and i thought he would love one to make the journies a little less stressful.

we had talked about me getting one for christmas but i don't think i'd use it as much as him

well i took the plunge and got Harry one for xmas. after discussing with the tutor at the dyslexia institute the text to speech facility will be brilliant for him.

his came today so I have downloaded some books for him, just a shame that Harry potter and several popular kids books aren't text to speech at the moment.

after playing with the kindle its brill and I really really hope Brian has got me one.... :D

I'm so sad....i'm only 22 and so behind the times. Not interested in any of the latest gadgets....they scare me. Laptop is enough for me. No iphone, no touch screens, no e reader. We are getting a classic ipod though and docking station for it because our CD player has broken and we have run out of space for CDs. My little brother had to explain it all to me though and will have to set it up!
