'Typical' starting numbers?

I'm just wondering, and in terms of hoping to try and plan how many children of what age I can have at any one time, in a decently sized 3 storey house what's a newly registered childminder typically going to get given in terms of how many of each age she can have?

What's the mechanism/criteria for how this is decided - do you just put down how many of each age you think your premises could accommodate or do they set it and then you have to request extra??? Not really clear how that all works and am sure many of you will already know this!!!! :)

Do you have any children of your own as that will be a factor if they are under 8, normally you can have 3 under 5 years (only one of them can be under 1 years) then 3 between the ages of 5 and 8. Hope that helps:)

some councils regulate the number of kids you can have in your house too! check for planning permission requirements where you live;)

Hi, I'm pre-reg & just had a visit from my childminding co-ordinator. I have a standard size 3 bed semi-detached and she said she would have thought i'd be reg for 3 children under 5 (of which no more that 1 can be under age 1) and 3 children age 5 - 8yrs. I have a 6 yr old so the number of 5-8yr olds will reduce to 2, but if yours are both over 8 then your number shouldn't be reduced. :)
