Claiming tax credits?

I'm wondering how it works for tax credits when you are childminding. I do get working and child tax credits at the moment. To get working tax credit you have to work a certain amount of hour per week, so what will happen when I start my own business? Before I get mindees, I won't be working as such, so do you just tell them week by week or month by month, or how does it work? And do you add hours for paperwork etc on top of actual childminding hours?

when you register as self employed you'll get a code. you'll need to ring tax credits and give them this code and also a forecast of what you expect to make til end apr 2010 (profit). xx :)
