My Gem is cooking for her fairly new boyfriend tomorrow evening

Anyone got any ideas

She wants something fairly simple

Not mega expensive

Something that will not take long but is easy to prepare

She is more than average at cooking but does not want to spend hours if you know what I mean

Ideas please ?

I reckon a nice simple pasta dish (with some fresh pasta) but with all fresh, home made ingredients and a nice bottle of wine and a pudding for sharing with 2 spoons.

Steak and salad or chunky chips? That's fairly easy if he likes meat!

Pasta carbonara with side salad. No garlic, we don't want garlic breath do we

Or steak, easy and quick to do along with salad and herby new potatoes.

Is Gem after a pudding too?

Nor have I   I just buy fresh pasta and buy the fresh sauce (maybe add a bit of extra bacon) you can't get much easier or quicker than that

She is doing chicken breast with a mild spicy herb dressing over them , and her own wedgers with mushrooms and onion rings and a few other things I think.

i love my chicken pasta - sauce made same way as bolognese sauce, toms, garlic herbs etc but just with chicken - chuck in some chili and some peppers and sliced black olives (if they like them), yum

If they don't want to get messy use small pasta not spaghetti and maybe some crusty bread and balsamic to share to start;)

One of my favourite quicky teas sometimes I pop the chicken in the oven while mindees are still here then I open a couple of packets of pasata and tinns of toms and add my garlic and herbs then let it warm up so that when last mindee goes I just need to cook the pasta & fry up some onion and sometimes a few mushrooms and while they are cooking I chop the readly cooked chicken and add it to the tom sauce followed by my onions and mushrooms & pasta hey presto a delicious meal served with crusty or garlic bread and grated cheese MMMMMmmmmm

I do a version of a pizza express dish :)

brown chopped chicken breasts, add sliced red onions and mushrooms - cook to soften. In another pan make cheese sauce and add good amount of green pesto. put chicken, mushrooms and onions into sauce, mix. Put in ovenproof dish, sprinkle with parmesan and into oven to warm through and brown cheese.

Amounts depend on how much you are cooking

Yummy!!

I have a good Nigella recipe for carbonara, it's not hard to make either. It's definitely a favourite with my husband.

Ingredients:
spaghetti (enough for 2 people)
olive oil
4 rashers bacon, cut into pieces
60ml white wine
3 eggs
50g grated parmesan
black pepper
150ml double cream
grated nutmeg
Method:
Heat some oil in a pan and cook the bacon until crispy.
Add the wine and cook for a few minutes until most of the wine has evaporated.
In a bowl beat the eggs and mix in the cream, parmesan and some pepper.
Cook the spaghetti in another pan.
Add the cream and cheese mixture to the bacon and heat for a few minutes.
Add to the drained pasta and mix.
Serve and grind over some pepper and grated nutmeg.
