Hi
I've just had a visit to take a 6 year old from 6.30am until 9.00am dropping at same school as my daughter
parent said she was looking to pay about £8-£10 for this time.
I said I couldn't do it for that as hours are outside my normal working hours (I usually start at 8am)

How much would you charge for this?

I charge time and a half before 8, so at £4.00 per hr that makes one morning a cost of £13.00. £8- 10 quid she's hoping isn't she!

I said £15, but told her to look for another childminder first as i don't really want to do that early but we are all so quiet around here at the moment I shouldn't really turn away business.
I am not a morning person at all lol

Minimum £15 here based on my schedule of rates but I simply would not work that early. My opening hours are 8.00 to 17.30 and outside that is time-and-a-half and I would never do more than half an hour before or after normal times unless I was to price it at double-time.

i use to do 6.30 till 1 but i was very naive and only charged normal £4 ,so regret that now have his sister start october and feel i can only charge the same ,but we all learn from experience

2 and a half hours for £8 - £10 she's having a laugh!

I def wouldn't do it for less than £15 and to be honest I wouldn't want to do it at all.

Poor child having to get up, ready and out for that time and still be able to concentrate at school.

You would have to be up by 5.30 - 6...could you do that?

My fee would be £15 plus breakfast. However i would not start that early - i would have to be up by about 6am and theres no chance of that.

I recently turned down a very similar enquiry because it was just too early.

I have 3 boys of my own and i don't want them to be wakened by someone arriving that early.

I charge £3.20 per hour for my normal working hours of 8.00am - 6.00pm.

Anything outside of these hours is time and a half so for me this would be £10.40 plus a charge of 75p if she wants me to provide breakfast.

So even though the childminding rates in my area are obviously lower than yours this would still be more than she's suggesting.

Stick to your guns - she can either accept the charge you're quoting or look elsewhere. Personally I wouldn't be too concerned about not getting a 6.30am start but then I'm not a morning person!!

I occassionally start that early for a single mum who does shifts. Its so difficult for some mum's when they have to do this. I do tell her though that between 6.30 and 7.30 (my normal starting time) I wont be doing lots of childminding things. I'll put the telly on for him (7) and do some housework or paperwork. It works quite well for me cos she's glad to have someone start that early and it gives me chance to get things done I couldn't normally do when I'm childminding such as housework.

Mine would be £6.50 including breakfast from 7.30 and before that £5.00 per hour so £11.50

I couldn't charge double time after 7.30 just because she came earlier than the others

I would charge £16 for that - but I wouldnt want to do it every day as Im really not a morning person  I also would not be prepared to do any 'activities' at that hour - more to offer a chill out zone, breakfast, etc before my normal start time. I do actually do some early mornings but not on a regular basis and if you finish at 6 at night (or later) then it becomes far too tiring after a while
