I've never dared get paints out for my son (2yrs) 1) because I haven't started minding yet and 2) because he has short concentration and don't think he would sit still/nicely while covered in paint, lol! How can I start to help him concentrate on activities for longer ?

you cant unless he wants to you could add things he like into activities ie cars into paint let him paint with water on back wall or chalk floor, balls into sand, bells/instruements whilst dancing hes very young and he will play for longer in a few mths just get a variety of activities out and observe.:)
