I may need to book a taxi tonight after midnight from a town that's about 30 minutes' drive away, 14 and a half miles. I'm trying to find out roughly how much that will cost and the website says:

TARIFF ONE
FARE SHOWN WHEN METER IS SWITCHED ON
This fare includes one unit of time or distance or any combination therof .................................................. .....................................£2.20

DISTANCE UNIT = 229.51 metres (251 yards)
Charge for each Distance Unit or incomplete part thereof.....................£0.20

TIME UNIT = 48 seconds
Charge for each Time Unit or incomplete part thereof..........................£0.20

WAITING TIME
Waiting time, whether requested or enforced by traffic congestion, or during loading, may be charged in accordance with the time unit charge.

HIRE BY TIME ONLY
If a Hackney Carriage is hired by time alone, then the rate of fare shall be previously agreed between the Hirer and the Driver.

TARIFF TWO
For any hiring commenced between the hours of midnight and 6.00am and all day on ALL PUBLIC HOLIDAYS (INCLUDING EASTER SUNDAY), the rate of fare shall be Tariff One plus 50% therof.

and it's like reading legalese! Does anybody have the kind of brain that can work that out? If so, I would be very grateful......

if going by time charge £6 30 x0.20
then add distance charge £ 49.28 14 miles x 1760yards (1 mile) 24640 yards x 0.20
Plus charge on meter £2.20
plus 50%

i think thats a ****** lot:eek:

Flag fall is £3.30 at tarrif which includes plus 50% after midnight (the meter will have the number 2 at the immediate left which means tarrif 2 - after midnight).

that covers the first 251 yds

After that it's 30p for every 251 yds

14.5 miles is 25520 yds... less the first 251 yds is 25269 yds

25269 divided by 251 is 100.67 at 30p is £30.20 PLUS the flag fall of £3.30

if you are with someone it's 20p extra per person per journey.

You should also write down the number of the taxi driver and ask for a receipt just in case you are not happy with the cost.

  That would put the fear of God into them

I guess it's because we're out in the country so they have to do a 28 mile round trip with no hope of picking another person up on the way back..... But much as I love my husband, do I love him £60.....?
