Hi All

Sorry  In the pre reg booklet, there is a question about adult:child ratios. Now I totally understand the '6 children under 8, of which 3 can be under 5 and of those 3, 1 can be under 1' but I can't find a solid reference to how many children over 8. I keep coming across things like "as long as the numbers don't impact on children in the EYFS range" etc.

So is that it? Or is there an actual number for TOTAL children (inc over 8s) per person?

Many thanks

The total number of children to be in your care at any one time is set by your insurance company and will be on your certificate somewhere.

Its usually around 10 or 12.

I dont have anything on my insurance certificate stating numbers? i've always been under the impression that u can have as many over 8's as u like so long as u can prove to Ofsted it does not affect the care of the under 8's.

hi it depends on who your insured with ncma is no more than 12 that includes your under 8s and your own lo. it also depends on size of house. hope this helps.

Ncma has an upper limit of 12 - I can't remember Morton Michel's just now but I think it's 10.

Hope you are enjoying the forum! :D

OK. So will Mrs Ofsted only be concerned with 'allocating' me my numbers for under 8s then and not concerned with the over eights?

Or will she say I can have 8 (for example) total, 6 in the under 8 group and 2 over 8 (these are just examples), or do I assume I can have the full numbers of over 8s?

Not that I am planning on looking after anywhere near that many children LOLOLOLOL but just for my booklet.

Thanks folks

Ofsted only regulate the care for the under 8's so as long as your care for older children doesn't affect the little ones then they don't really care!
