I just rang my home and contents insurers to inform them that I was becoming a child minder (as of next week). Apparently it is unacceptable with them and I need to cancel (£20!!) and they suggested I go on the internet and find a new one.

Any recommendations please? I was only paying £17.99 per month for both buildings and contents so am expecting a bit of a hike in price!

Thanks

Our contents is with Morethan and they are ok about me childminding, but dont cover if childminded children cause the damage, which to be honest is unlikely to happen. But will look at the others when its up for renewal for a quote

We tried lots but most wouldn't have us when we mentioned childminding of the few that would quote us RIAS was the cheapest.

I've had a nightmare with Churchill trying to stop my renewal its automatic and their renewal was higher than a new policy with them. After over 20mins waiting on the phone I sent an email and got one back saying someone would ring me, 2 weeks later and several emails later I got given the address as they can't cancel it by email! but they still haven't rang me back.

I'm not renewing with them so I'm on the search as well.

I have been with London Edinburgh (been taken over by various companies over the years but now owned by Aviva:rolleyes: ) since becoming a Minder in 1994 no probs at all, now Aviva want £800+ FOR CONTENTS ONLY  When I queried it I was told by one of their staff Mmm sounds like they dont want Childminders  I have moved mine to Morten Michel and its only £113 , trying them for car next

when we did out course we were told that your public libility insurance covered the cost of mindees damage to any property and contents would cover cost of your own childrens damage - is that not correct then???

Hi all

Just taken out a new policy with Home Protect (underwritten by AXA) for £28.00 a month which is £8 less than what my renewal quote with Woolwich (Barclays) was for, and that didn't include any extra for me being a childminder!

Home Protect specialise in home insurance for childminders so may be worth a crack!

I have had home insurance with Churchill for years and are always cheaper than Blu Fin for me. Nationwide, Tesco, Direct Line are other firms that do cover for cms. Out of interest who were you with and why won't they cover you? Cm is fairly low risk.
