I have a Mum who will be paying retainer to hold a place for March time.

Can she use the childcare tax credit to pay this money, in effect they are paying for 2 days childcare so I suppose they could get round it that way, is that right?

When I used a CM I was off sick for 3 months but didn't want to give notice as DD really liked her. Tax credits paid even though they knew DD wasn't using the place. They said as long as the money was still going to the child carer there was no requirement for the child to be using the space.

She might be best paying up front herself and claiming it back later.

New claims can take a while to set up and it's not your problem if the money doesn't come through.

Hth :D

Ooops it's not the childcare tax credit it's the childcare tax relief, the £243 they can have deducted from their pay before tax.

Would they still be able to use it to pay for a retainer?

As long as it is going to a registered carer it doesn't matter what it is for
