are they the initials for something? like 'a mere example = pants'?

Daddy Day Care

nope not initials, they are the first 3 letters of a word

for example

rub could be rubbish
sap could be sapling

woo hoo!

Three students check into a hotel and paid £30 for a room (£10 each). When the hotel manager returned he noticed that the clerk had incorrectly charged then £30instead of £25 for the room. The manager told the clerk to return £5 to the students. The clerk, knowing that the students couldn't share it evenly, decided to keep £2 and only give them £3 back.

The students were very happy because they only paid £27 (£9 each) for the room. However, if they paid £27 andthe clerk kept £2, that adds up to £29. What happened to the other pound?

but there is no other pound

they paid 27 + 5 =32 - £2 for the clerk is 30

but there is no other pound

they didn't pay £32.......

What do you say, BTeam? I'm a bit flummoxed.

TheBTeam
06-11-2009, 07:35 PM
3 x 10 = £30, £5 to the clerk makes the room cost £25 plus the £2 that the clerk kept = £27, divide £27 by 3 this is what the men paid (3x9)

The men paid 30-3, the clerk had 2, so if you add 30-3-2, makes the hotel owner get £25 for the room.

30 paid
-25 kept by hotel owner
+3 given back to men (30-3 + 9 per man)
+2 kept by the clerk

The room at £25 divided by the 3 men should have cost them £8.33aprx each, but it cost them £9 each (3x9 =27) because the remaing 67p aprx each went to pay the clerk the £2.

Not sure how well i have explained this!

venus89

Blackhorse
06-11-2009, 07:44 PM
they paid 30 £ to the hotel

should have been 25 but they dont know that

so when the clerk gives them back 3 £ they only think ...oh we paid 9 pound fo the room...when really they didnt....as they dont know about the things clerk did

25 for the room
3 change back
2 for the clerk

makes 30

i think i know the answer why it is 6 but not v.good at explaining. at the end of each row/column the number is 1 above or below the other end so where the missing 6 is at the end of the row going up is 7 and the one going across is 5 making missing number is 6. if you follow it works for every line/column

Ok it is 6 because...................

Every small square adds up to 20, by that i mean if u take a square of four numbers say top left it wud be 2 5 7 6 = 20 top right 9 1 2 8 = 20. Every little square is 20, the bottom right is 7 3 4 ? that comes to 14 so the answer has to be 6.

Not very good at explaining that hope it makes sense

my hubby has just told me a brill one (well i thought it was good anyway)

There was a old man who lived by himself. He felt tired so he went into the bathroom, went to the toilet and then turned the light off before going to bed. The next morning there was a news flash on the radio that a boat crashed. The man opened the window and jumped out. Why?

I am a 6 letter word.
Letters 6-5-2 spell out a drink.
Letters 4-5-2-3 spell out a fruit.
Letters 1-2-6 spell out a pet.
Letters 3-2-6 spell out a pest, which often gets eaten by 1-2-6.

Well, as nobody has posted one for a while, here's another.....

Pirate Captain Fred and his band of scurvy sea dogs were sailing the seven seas, just like normal for a Wednesday afternoon. "Arrghh, there be the smell o' doubloons, lads, I feels it in me bones," exclaimed Fred. Just moments later, actually it was 5 hours, but moments for the sake of the story, there was a cry from the crow's nest. "Ship ahoy, ship ahoy," shouted Pirate Rook. Sure enough the ship came further and further into view. "Arrrrghhhh, that be the scallywag landlubber, Pirate Ecnic. Load them cannon lads, there's gunna' be fireworks," yelled Fred.

The ships came together, and all manner of swashbucklin' ensued. Captain Fred won the day, which surprised everyone, including himself, and the victorious scoundrels looted Ecnic's ship. "Cap'n, Cap'n we gots a map, a treasure map. It say it be the map o' Beigebeard 'imself," roared a few of the crew. "But the final secret I takes to Davy Jones' locker," howled Ecnic, whilst being assisted to disembark, and with that he stepped off the end of the plank.

The crew followed the map's directions and they eventually found themselves in a graveyard, but there the clues ran out. It was a clear night, with a full moon, and the time was about midnight. They searched by candlelight and discovered it was full of Beigebeard's family. There were the graves of Beigebeard himself, his first wife, his second wife, his 9 official children, his 37 unofficial children, his 3 brothers, his 7 sisters and a host of cousins, uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces. "What is we to do, Cap'n," asked the mangy crew. "Arrrrrrghhhhhh, start diggin', o'er there," bellowed Fred.

Where had Fred told them to dig for the treasure?

the ambassadors chauffeur, Finch, notched up 15951 miles on his mileometer and noticed that this number was palindromic, reading the same backwards as forwards.
