Hi

http://www.british-sign.co.uk/fingerspelling.php

Includes alphabet for signing in acrobat, word or JPEG and fingerspelling clip art

http://www.british-sign.co.uk/signing.php

includes basic signs for colours, weather home and school

You could also speak to your local speech therapy department. I have just done a short course on speech therapy through language and play with our local one and they gave me some sheets of signalong - basic language based on BSL which they use.

http://www.teach-nology.com/worksheets/misc/sign/

This is a great site I have printed of the work sheets and laminated them so the mindies can see them rather than at the computer.

I think its a great idea to teach sign language from an early stage they have started to teach it in reception class at my grandaughters local school, so am trying to learn it myself.

If any one wants to learn to sign... adult education classes often have bsl stage one classes. At our local one if you are in receipt of tax credits you did't pay for the course either.

They are American Signs, Bristish Sign Language uses two hands.

Bev, I'm in a hurry just now but I will reply to your email after the school run.

Thanks Sarah, my other site is www.signtogether.co.uk - members have access to signs on the boards.

I'll post my reply to Bev's email incase it is useful to anyone else:

'I'd recommend the Child's Play books - http://www.chelltune.co.uk/childs-play-m-12.html?osCsid=f2f27ad179bf4d765e5925fcfced313d

These also show images of children from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and some have images of disabled children so they are a good resource for childminding.

Without knowing what signs you want to teach them it is hard to recommend a specific book. The Child's Play books are good as there is the one with 50 basic signs, an animal signs books, ones related to daily activities such as meal time, play time, etc or the songs. They are board books so tough and durable for little hands.

There are finger puppets on the site to go with the sing-along books, ideal if you want to make a song sack.'

There are different types of signing , see here (http://www.chelltune.co.uk/signing_learn_more.php).

The Sign with Olli book has great pictures in it, the front cover really doesn't do it justice.

I have just done a MAKATON course. Its worth getting on, and if more so if you get it paid for. You can print off some sheets from bbc website

My DO thinks it would be better to learn BSL rather than Makaton. She even "hinted" that she may be able to spring it for me to get hold of some funding so fingers crossed.

I have been looking at my local college but there is nothing till Sept.

Nix, why are you wanting to learn to sign? Is it to sign with preverbal babies/toddlers or as communication with children with special needs or just for fun?

I'm asking as it depends who/why you are signing really as to which product suits best.
