Thought I'd share this idea from one of the playgroups I go to.

Put lots of cabbage leaves in a tuff spot or similar tray, add scissors and let the children cut them up.

Very simple but the children loved it and the cabbage gives off a nice scent when it's cut.

As an extension playgroup provided bowls and spoons for the children to spoon the chopped cabbage into.

Our nursery often does that. They also give the children knives (obviously safe ones!) to use.

You can always tell when they've done it becasue of the smell when you walk in to nursery! I'm trying to think what other veg they put in, but can't remember. I'm pretty sure I've seen carrots in there.

Good idea, will make a change from picking up bits of tiny paper the kids cut up, will smell nice too.

Cabbage leaves with thick chunky stalks are fab for teething babies esp if they are straight out of the fridge (cabbage not babies!)

We also print with wedges of them and also printing with the savoy cabbages with bubbles in make great firework pictures on black card.

Never thought of cutting them though, thanks miffy!
