diwali hand designs

Hi All

Thought it might be good to do some designs on the childrens hands for diwali but was wondering what i could use that wouldnt come off right away but would be easily washed off with soap and water and also that would be safe for children.

Not quite what you are after but how about getting the children to draw around their hands, cut them out and then decorate them with pains/pens/pencils/sticking?

I use facepaint , or those washable felttips , but make sure they wash it off the same day or it will stain.
