I have just started minding and am not sure what is best. Do others find it best to ask for payment by the month which will be different each time or 4 weekly but then this changes the date to pay each time. Thanks for any help..

I used to do it by the month but now do it every 4 weeks

The dates do change but its still works out better because the amount remains the same rather than a 4 or 5 week month

The reason I changed it is because my parent gets her tax credits paid every 4 weeks so found it easier

I dont think it matters though do whatever you find the easiest method

I've always done four weekly invoices, find it easier that way.

I work my year out and divide by 12 and then for the 2 months of 5 weeks I don't have to work it out

It also helps parents and me to budget each month as we know what the regular payment is.

I work out one week x by 52 weeks (39 for t-time only contracts) then divide by 12.

I work it out per calender month, then I don't get lost!

I used to do calendar months but it didn't fit in with the accounts software I use. Now I invoice monthly but either 4 or 5 weeks depending on how it falls. Works fine for me

I give my parents a choice of either weekly or monthly with the month being a full calender month - this has always worked well for me and parents. Most start with weekly and then change to monthly as it's easier.

both! I have one who pays monthly in 2 installments - chq on the 1st and vouchers on the 6th and one who pays 4 weekly in advance! It works for them and so long as it comes in I'm happy!:D

Most pay by calendar month but I have one set who pay 4 weekly as that is how they get paid. I go with what suits parents best.

I take the weekly amount due then x by 48 (4 weeks are unpaid holiday for me) and divide by 12 to make the monthly amount due to invoice to parents. That way as Debbie said, you have the same figure paid regardless of weeks in month and whether you are on holiday or not. Find it easier and parents all happy with that.

Thanks everyone. I have taken the advice and spoken to the parent. They prefer 4 weekly as the payment they recieve comes that way.

I don't mind so long as it is in advance. I have had parents pay me weekly fortnightly four weekly and the 1st of the calendar month. Depends on when the parents get paid really.

I have all sorts but i know who pays what, the ones on tax credit and vouchers have it worked out throughout the year so they pay the same each month.
I always give it my husband to work out for me as he is the accountant, he gives each parent a schedule so they no how it is worked out as i have some children who are school hours then full time in the holidays
