you can get PLI through NCMA or MM. It covers if a child has an accidnt in your care etc.

Can't remember how much it is - have a look on NCMA website

no you will need actual car insurance - you need to tell your insurer that you are a childminder. Not many charge you extra (and if they do I would swop insurers) again NCMA (not sure about MM) sell car insurance through Motorminder

Don't apologise for needing to know something:)

You just need to tell your car insurance that you are a childminder and you need business insurance, I described what I did that it was just having children in my care in the car to/from school/nursery and on trips out. It cost me an extra £10 for business insurance but its peace of mind.

High there. You need class one business insurance for your car.

I have been with Churchill for the last year. I was with the Moterminder before that and frankly they were such a nightmare I would never go back to them. this has been confirmed this week. My dh had been with them and his insurance has come up for renewal.

They sent a statement of fact which has all the details of the policy on it apparently compiled from details he had given them! They are the facts on which the whole insurance contract in based.

They had me as an additional driver, childminder, employed  Then they had covered me for Social, Domestic and Pleasure not business use. They had both of us done as having passed our driving test on the same day in August 1992! I passed mine in 1973 and dh in 1981. The mileage on his car was so wrong it was laughable.

What was so conerning was that this was wrong and dh had corrected over the phone a lot of details last year an was assured they did not need to send him a copy of the updated info it would be fine. Well obvously not. :panic:

They also continue to insist that we all have class 3 insurance when we only need class 1. Why?

I am so angry that this 'broker' that only offers insurance from one company and supposedly offers specialist childminding insurance is allowed to continue to advertise in Who Minds. I have complained at the highest level and will continue to do so until something has been done.

Sorry to have a rant but I think peolpe need to know the truth.

dh has renewed with Churchill and I know many of you have your insurance with many different reputable companies.

Got PLI through NCMA when I joined them and car insurance I got through 'Churchills' already with them and when I asked how much extra for business didn't effect my policy..no extra charge ( no extra cost...ohhh yesss) got a bigger car so a couple of small charges for changing my policy... but no big effect on the old purse..
