Afternoon all.

I have just been looking at quotes for Contents and Building insurance for the new house. iv never had to ahve building insurance before as we were renting but adding this on seems to be costing quite a bit as we childmind over 6 children (some are over 8).

I was just wondering how much others pay and who with?

I've never been asked how many children I mind - I have found that most wont cover childminding at all however Churchill do and were very reasonable compared to Home minder!

i was with tesco but recently rang sheilas wheels for a qoute and it was A LOT cheaper so went with them. the only thing they won't cover me for is accidental damage on contents which i didn't mind as never had it!

I have found Homefinder (bluefin) the cheapest and best value. I have really shopped around because I was annoyed that Bluefin were putting some of their charges up. However they seem to cover so much more than the others and also include buildings insurance which many of the others didn't. So I stayed with them. They are the best for me anyway.x.

Just looked at the eligibility on churchill and it states:

Your property is used for residential purposes and is not used for any business use or profession other than paperwork, telephone calls and computer work

which I guess means it will no longer cover childminders :(

Mine covers me for childminding - give them a ring, it might be different if you speak to somebody :D

Wouldn't necessarily recommend any insurer over another (because its very dependant on lots of circumstances and also your requirements) but from experience arranging B&C insurance for other clients who work from home, the Buildings aspect isn't usually an issue. The contents is normally the problem for both childminders and those who have employees working in their homes. For people running businesses from home who have employees, public liability insurance, employers liability insurance and depending on the nature of the business Professional Indemnity Insurance are usually required. However, my understanding is that due to the nature of childminding there is specialised insurance for childminders that can be used in conjunction with your standard B&C policy. I'm sure someone on here has it and they'd be able to steer you in the right direction.

Also, check out comparethemarket.com ,they have a specialised section

http://www.comparethemarket.com/business-insurance/public-liability-insurance-for-childminders/

regarding public liability insurance for childminders.

Hope this is a little bit helpful.

I'm with Churchill - they put me down as a Childminder and I made doubly sure they knew I was CM from my home.

I've got Liverpool Victoria who offer no number limits (well no under 6 kids rule) and they still offer accidental cover on soft furnishings which lots don't if you childmind.

I pay £440/year but that includes £100 travel insurance

We are with Natwest and they wont cover accidental damage, going to get a quote from Churchill I think. Our car insurance went up by 6 pounds a month tho and that is with swiftcover.

I ended up staying with Sterling through Morton Michel who I had my contents insurance with origionaly. The only thing was I could not be covered for accidental damage as we were going over 10 children on some days but the rest was fine.
