Give your after schoolers a 'cinema experience' Get the children to choose a dvd ( pref a new one ) Then help them to make cinema tickets , arrange cushions on the floor in rows, turn the lights down ( or off ). Collect the tickets at the door and using a torch show them to their seats.
Serve popcorn ( for the over fives ) and cartons of juice.
When the dvd has finished talk to them about their favourite parts and if there's time get them to write about it or draw a picture.
I use this sometimes on a rainy day in the school hols and the children love it.
It can take up an entire afternoon by the time you've made the tickets and pop corn. And you're not just sitting them in front of a dvd ( honestly! ).
