wash hands before eating and after toilet

listen to each other

tidy up toys after use

sit at the table to eat

remember please and thank you

am sure there should be others but I know some other people will be along soon with more ideas :D

I do have house rules (with pictures) for all ages on my notice board.

We eat & drink at the table
We play nicely with the toys, share and are polite
We treat furniture with respect
We do not run indoors

i was told in my ICP not to have negative sentences. starting a sentence by NO is supposed to be a big NO-No. can someone verify this?

I don't have mine written down - they are learned as we go about our day and routines

Just say the children decided what to put down in the house rules. Then you can put what you want.

No being serious we were told on a course that you should write the rules with the children and what they decide goes. Yer right:D

we were told to use positive wording that is simple to understand, and as young children tend to hear the END of a sentence, if you say "don't run" they will hear "run"! so my rules are please walk, please help tidy up, when you are eating please sit, please be kind etc and I have to say it does work and you don't sound like you're nagging either:)

During a recent behaviour management course we were told we should not use negatives... and call them 'behaviour goals' rather than rules.

So instead of saying 'don't do ...' you should say 'please do...' :D

Mine are

we take turns
walking legs inside the house
we sit nicely
we take turns
we listen to each other
we wash our hands after playing outside, touching pets and before we eat

The kids made these all up and I tried to put the postive spin on it:thumbsup:

I have mine on the wall as you walk in. They are listed with pictures next to them to make them more interesting to the kiddies.

I have:

We are kind to each other and to animals
We share
We think of others and ourselves
We talk (indoor and outdoor voices)
We listen
We take care of toys and books and others peoples possessions
We help each other
We are polite
We have fun together

(these are the ones of the top of my head)

Like others I try to steer away from negative commands and try to accent the positive. I try to think of positives that cover all - like
we are kind to each other - (this includes no nasty words, no hitting, kicking, biting scratching etc, kind to animails - not pulling tails/ears, poking etc)
we talk - includes steer away from shouting, whining, paddies etc

hope that makes sense

I have got:

1. Please remove your shoes indoors so we can keep the dirt outside
2. We should not hit, bite, scratch tease or hurt people or animals, its just not nice!
3. We should play with everybody ( I explain this as boys play with girls older children play with younger ones etc)
4. When we are finished playing with something we should put it away otherwise we won't be able to find things
5. We should not jump or climb on Amy's furniture we could fall and hurt ourselves
6. The big girls and boys should make sure they close the baby gates
7. We should not scream and shout because it hurts Amy's ears!
8. We should share because that's how we make friends
9. Please don't say rude words or swear - its just not polite
10. We should take care of our books and toys
11. We should say please and thank you because its good manners
12 We should eat nicely at meal times because we are clever and we can!
