we reg'd together and she is trying for a baby, but she wondered howshe would work the NI conts. as she will want some maternity leave etc.

cAN YOU PAY DOUBLE THE AMOUNT etc to cover yourself for this type of thing?

Not sure - She can ring the Newly self-employed helpline 0845 915 4515 they give advice on Tax & NI

The advice of the helpline is good. I thought the maternity leave was based on the last 66 weeks of work and your NI payments so she may need to continue her NI payments as a self employed person to get maternity. I pay between £8.40 and £11.40 per quarter.

I would like to stress that I pay it for unempolyment/sickness benefit and not for more children!!!
