I would love to get a higher qualification, I currently have a Btec national diploma in childcare which is a level 3 but would like to do something more, I don't want it to be just aimed at childminders though as I love my work at pre school and would like to eventually just do that.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to what I could do next?

I would have to do home based learning - preferably online but doesn't have to be, I just can'd have the time to go to college etc.

What is the next level up, is it a level 4 or 2?

Open University E123 and E124 together give you a level 4...

I've just done them, some others are too.

They are home based learning and mine were funded.

They were hard work but interesting.

I am sure that you can no longer get the certificate in early years practice as part of the foundation degree by studying E123/E124 because they have been replaced by E100. Could be worth looking into......

Kelly, are you sure? I'm not finding any info at Open U website on E100 or ED100 and E123 and 124 are still listed as the necassary courses. I had heard a rumour that they were going to be combined into one (possibly E100 that you mention?) but not heard any further info. I'd be happy to know what you know!:D

Mrs. B, I didn't have to do a residential for E123 and 4 but I would think it depends on what course you're doing. My husband was studying a Masters through Open U and it required a residential stay. I, for one, would welcome the break from every day life!!!!!

Tatia, it is true -
Please note that this course is not open for registration. This course (and E124) has been replaced by our new course The early years: developing practice (E100) which starts in October 2009 (details will be available in February 2009). If you have previously completed one of these courses and are considering working towards the Certificate in Early Years Practice and the Foundation Degree in Early Years, more information about completing the other course will be posted by the end of 2008.

Sorry to bump this up again lol but I really want to start something asap and nothing seems to be taking registrations until oct 09 :(

Thanks, Mrs. B. That's interesting. Makes sense to combine them into one course, I guess but I know alot of people preferred taking them one at a time as a way to ease into distance learning. It's still a Level 1 course but it's 60 points instead of 30 points each for E123 and 124.
