Having done the SEF and thinking life will be easier now.....I am just tidying up the 9 learning journey books I have, before Monday. In the surrey books they put a page for target setting. How do you word these targets without making it sound too formal? I suppose I should look through each area of development..psed,cll etc and see where a child could move on. All my mindees on the whole are well ahead so where would you start?

Once you've found the age and stage your child is working towards, then you can start spotting next steps.

Sometimes it's a matter of consolidating eg x counted to 5. Well x is doing well for his age and stage to get to 5 so instead of pushing him to count to 10, which would be well above where his capabilities lie at the present time, consolidate 5... songs to 5, songs back from 5, natural objects to 5, sets of 5 eg 5 conkers and 5 acorns, 5 dinosaurs picture ... those sorts of activities designed to support the child :D

Thanks Sarah. After posting the query I sat down and looked at my observations and realized that I just needed to do the next steps. All done now and tidied away. :)

Hi, I'm confused. I bought 2 types of books-look, listen and note & planning from the bomley childminding group. These books have area's for you to write your observations, link to eyfs, next steps etc. I have a LL & N and a planning booklet for each child in my setting. Is this the same info as a learning journal or do I need to do one of those as well?? Help...
