No do not chuck it away. You need to keep this for insurance purposes in case anybody (child included at a later date) wishes to make a claim. The current timescale for keepin these records is 22 years if I am correct - I am sure somebody will confirm if this is correct.

A child in your care now can make a claim later in life (i.e. when they are 18 years old) for an accident that may have happened whilst they were with you - the register will confirm whether they were or not.

Yes very scary as surely 20 years on how could you pin an accident down to the specific hours that the child was with you. How could you remember what had happened. i can't tell you what I done yesterday let alone last year so how I would be expected to remember 20 years later I don't know!!

At work (soft play centre) we were told until the child was 18yrs old then it could be thrown away? Why is it different for childminders?

No idea!

It's what our insurance company says, nothing to do with Ofsted :D
