One of the things on my list of things to think about whilst I am setting up is the going rate.

Been talking to a few childminders who pick up from the school my children go to, and one of the things that came up in conversation was how much they charge.

I live in North London, and the minders I was chatting to said their going rates were...

£5 to £5.50 per hour for full timers and £6 to £7 per hour for school pickups.

I nearly fell over! I had been expecting £4 full time and £4.50 part time.

What do you guys think?

If thats what your local rates are I would set yours at/around the same. You don't want to be undercutting to much - that isn't going to get you friends with the other minders, also too low and parents may question why you are lower.

Select your middle ground.

I am moving too North London..... (its just gone up to £3.50ph round our way)

The other thing to do is to check with a few local nurseries and see what they charge per day / per week.

That will give you a good idea of where to pitch your fees. :D

thats high here it ranges from £3- £5 but mainly all round the £3 mark

end day its up to you hun, if you go under them then you may get more parents wanting to know but then they (the other cm's) could turn on you coz of it. (hope you know what i mean there)

or you could just match the price in hope you get enquires etc
