I have just finished reading the Statutory Requirements for the 100th time and it states that we have to do a risk assessment for each type of outing - that reduced my planned ones by 50%.

My question is do they have to be written? the framework doesn't say written?

I would think so, Debbie. That would be the only way to prove to OFSTED that you have actually done them.

Hehe, I'd like to have OFSTED inspector around and say 'okay, now, can you read my mind?' Then again, maybe not!

I agree with Tatia - Ofsted seem to want you to prove everything and that means having things written down

Now, if you were really brave you could challenge them at your inspection but it might cost you a grade

Also you would have them there to remind you if you havent done a certain trip for a while.

For example if you come back from somewhere and think of something you must do/take for the next time then you might have forgotten it by the time the next visit. Ie a park that has a pond and you might want to take reigns the next time.

I will talk it over with DO next time I see her.

Would a written risk assessment also include an outing to the local park?
