What do you do when a mindee comes with a comforter that they have had since being tiny and just HAS to have it at nap times?

I have in the past had a few mindees who would get distressed without their little cuddly toy for nap times. With safer sleep being very much in the news at the moment, and rightly so, comforters are not recommended. How do you handle it?

I must have missed something!

Mine often have cuddly toys for nap time ... they like to chose one from my selection. Current favourites are the soft shark, and the snake !!! They generally give it a snuggle as they fall asleep on the sleep mat, and then it is just lying next to them as they sleep. Babies ( up to about 18mths ) sleep in a lie flat buggy ( with a mesh end, to allow air to circulate ) and I can't remember the last baby mindee who needed a comforter to go to sleep ( other than a dummy! )

I assume comforters aren't recommended because of the risk of suffocation?

As I work with an assistant, one of us is always in the room with sleeping babies so I'm OK for them to have a comforter as we're watching them.
I am conscious of them falling asleep with a toy or cloth covering their face though, so I usually wait until they're asleep then move it out of the way.
