How's your weekend been? If it's anything like mine, it's gone by in a flash!

I spent yesterday morning sorting out a couple of cupboards, then taking some of it to the charity shop. While I was in there I had a look round and found some lovely wooden fruit. I was talking to the woman in there and telling her the fruit was for the minded children to play with. She said she was sure there was some more upstairs, but it was plastic so much better for the children (in her worlds!) She went off to fetch it and I was wondering how I could tactfully tell her I didn't want plastic play fruit, but when she brought it down, it wasn't play food, but actual size, realistic-looking plastic fruit. It's fab...and only £2 for a big bag full. The children will love it, although I know at least one who will try and take a bite out of it

Today I've been pottering round, then went for a coffee with my eldest son. We found a lovely little coffee house that did some gorgeous cakes, so of course we had to have a piece each as well :D

I'm now sitting down and chilling before the start of another busy week.

Enjoy what's left of your weekend

I also went around the charity shops yesterday. I got a lovely African bangle with zig zags on it - we do patterns a lot and I don't have many things with zig zags - so this ticks quite a few boxes. I also got a nice unusual brass spoon for the outdoor kitchen (I love unusual spoons) and a brass jug. I bought my Christmas cards too.

Today we went to a National Trust place. We had a lovely walk. It was a bit stressful because we took our dog and I still can't relax when there are other dogs off the lead. Our poor little dog is also so terrified in the car. It's only a 15 minute journey each way and we are really trying to get him used to it so that we can start taking him further afield.

We've done lots of cleaning today so we just had pizza for dinner because none of us wanted to mess up the kitchen by cooking. We'll be watching Strictly shortly, but for now we are watching Glee. We never watched it the first time around, so we are watching it from the beginning and are enjoying it. I've done some laminating of resources, but I haven't cut them out yet. I'll aim to do it tomorrow as the children play.

Your fruit sounds lovely Mouse!

I agree Mouse the weekend has flown by, I haven't really done anything exciting, a bit of cleaning and popped out to the shop. I had a look in the local charity shop but no bargains today.
I have got up some chickpeas which I am going to dye, has anyone done this themselves ? I have seen some coloured sets you can buy online but they are quite expensive.

Maza the more you go out with your dog in the car he will get used to it. I know how you feel about other dogs off the lead, ours getting nervous when another dog bounds up to him due to a bad experience when he was a pup. I hate it when we are are out and other dogs are off lead and the owners have no control of their dog.

Have a good week everyone.

and now it is Sunday night!

I was going to bed an hour ago, but got an email i needed to reply to ... and then i got lost in the internet!:laughing:

Dh and I went for a long walk, it was lovely and sunny, and got warm, but rather blowy up on the tops. Other than that, and cooking various meals, i don't seem to have done anything this weekend. I'm envious of your charity shop finds. Last week i popped into a charity shop in a nearby town, and spotted a couple of small metal jugs that I thought would be great for outdoors ... but at £8.50 each, I wasn't going to buy them !!!

Pixie; I've dyed lots of chickpeas. I put a handful in a small plastic bag, a squirt of acrylic paint and squidge them all around until they are covered. Sometimes they need a bit more paint. I then put them on a plastic plate, or in a plastic tub and leave them to dry. I find they dry really quickly. ( I stir them around a bit with a spoon incase they are still wet though! ) The children enjoy playing with them. we use them for lots of fine motor/posting/sorting activities.
I've been dyeing rice today. again, in a small bag, with a few squirts of food colouring and a splosh of white vinegar! ( helps the colouring set - i used to use hand gel, but vinegar works as well ) ... just a word of warning ... it becomes addictive! I've got more bags of coloured rice and chickpeas than I almost know what to do with it!

I'm envious of the coloured rice and chick peas. I've got two who would love it, but my third one, who is here 4 days a week would tip the rice all on the floor within seconds and put the chick peas in his mouth. I have got some big pieces of pasta in the flisat table at the moment which I am ok with, but I am trying to think of a variety of things that he could have instead of pasta, but I'm struggling to think of safe things. I'm thinking lots and lots of milk bottle tops...

Our dog can also be nervous around other dogs and doesn't like being in the car. He is getting used to both, slowly a bit happier around other dogs, although doesn't like any sudden movements. He's been a bit of a mess with the fireworks though, so I'm hoping they are over now.

Thanks, I have just checked and I don't have any acrylic paint so will try and get some over the weekend, typical as I just did an order from Baker Ross last week.
