***DBS UPDATE SERVICE UPDATE***

Ofsted have made changes to the way they manage the DBS update service for childminders.

Childminders and staff and family members no longer need to sign *NEW* DBS checks up to the update service - now they just 'strongly recommend it'.

The DBS page - step 4 - has been updated with this new information - Ofsted DBS Application - Security Watchdog - Step Four (http://ofsteddbsapplication.co.uk/step-four).

No other changes - we still need a 'home based' DBS for ourselves and family members - police checks are still valid - CRB checks are still valid - pre-2014 DBS checks are still valid - this change will *only* affect new sign ups to the DBS service.

If you are currently registered on the update service Ofsted *recommend* you continue to pay annually but this is no longer a requirement.

Hth :D

I guess in theory it could have been a good idea but it has been so badly managed that it's now just a nightmare for anyone trying to apply to update service with the limited time slot and where people have had to pay for whole new DBS.

Seems crazy that lots of people who have been childminding for 20 years or more only have an old fashioned Police Check and many have got CRB's - both of which never expire or have to be updated, to then go to such an over regulated system.

Thank you for updating us on the update service requirements, I have shared with new childminders in our network.
